BILLINGS, Mont. - The Rocky Mountain College football team opened its 2023 season with a 42-17 loss at No. 15 Dickinson State University on Saturday afternoon. The Battlin' Bears fell behind 21-0 in the first half and were unable to recover.
Early Deficit Proves Too Much to Overcome
Dickinson State scored touchdowns on its first three possessions to take a commanding lead. Rocky Mountain's offense struggled to move the ball in the first half, managing just 92 yards of total offense.
The Battlin' Bears finally got on the board with a 3-yard touchdown run by quarterback Nathan Dick in the third quarter. However, Dickinson State responded with a touchdown of its own to push the lead back to 28-7.
Rocky Mountain Rallies But Falls Short
Rocky Mountain showed some fight in the second half, scoring 10 unanswered points to cut the deficit to 28-17. However, Dickinson State put the game away with a touchdown late in the fourth quarter.
