Staley's seven-year, $22.4 million contract makes her the highest-paid Black head coach in college sports and one of the highest-paid women's basketball coaches.
The University of South Carolina announced on Wednesday that women's basketball coach Dawn Staley has signed a seven-year, $22.4 million contract extension. The deal makes Staley the highest-paid Black head coach in college sports and one of the highest-paid women's basketball coaches.
Staley's base salary will rise by $100,000 each year over the next five years, meaning her base salary in the final year of the contract will be $3 million. She will also receive outside compensation that begins at $1.9 million in the first year and escalates each year.
"I am grateful to the University of South Carolina for its continued commitment to me and our women's basketball program," Staley said in a statement. "I am excited to lead this team to new heights and continue to make the Gamecocks a national contender."
