Alicent And Rhaenyra

House of the Dragon: Alicent's Betrayal Sparks Conflict

A Promise Broken

In a shocking twist in the latest episode of "House of the Dragon," Princess Alicent Hightower has betrayed her promise to protect the realm and her newfound trust with Rhaenyra Targaryen.

Aegon's Coronation

Despite promising to keep the gates of King's Landing open to refugees fleeing the battle, Alicent secretly ordered them closed. She then had her son, Aegon II, crowned king, effectively usurping Rhaenyra's rightful claim to the throne.

Alicent's Misunderstanding

Rhaenyra's conversation with Alicent reveals that Alicent misunderstood former King Viserys' dying words. She had taken his retelling of Aegon the Conqueror's prophecy about "the Prince that was Promised" to be a reference to her son.

Protection and Rejection

Alicent insists she is simply protecting her own children. When Rhaenyra offers to mend their relationship through marriage, Alicent rejects her. This has set the stage for an explosive conflict between the two former allies and rivals.
