Max Verstappen Wins Inaugural Miami Grand Prix
Late-Race Assault by Charles Leclerc Falls Short
Red Bull's Max Verstappen held off a late-race charge from Ferrari's Charles Leclerc to claim victory in the inaugural Miami Grand Prix. Verstappen had been cruising to an easy win after dominating the race, but Leclerc closed the gap in the closing laps, setting up a thrilling finish.
Leclerc pushed Verstappen hard, but the Dutchman was able to hold on for the win, securing his second victory of the 2022 Formula 1 season. Leclerc finished second, while Sergio Perez of Red Bull took third.
The race was marred by two safety car periods, which bunched up the field and gave Leclerc a chance to close in on Verstappen. However, the Dutchman was able to maintain his lead throughout the race and take the checkered flag first.
Verstappen's victory extends his lead in the drivers' championship standings to 20 points over Leclerc. The next race on the Formula 1 calendar is the Spanish Grand Prix, which will take place on May 22.
